Oakham Select Board Approves Sober in the Sun Permits for Labor Day Weekend Festival

OAKHAM — July 21, 2025 — Oakham Select Board approves Sober in the Sun permits and temporarily expands treasurer hours. The board unanimously approved a raffle permit through August 31 and an entertainment permit for August 29 through September 1 for the annual sobriety festival held at Treasure Valley Scout Reservation, now in its 37th year. Ted Croto, representing organizer Sandstool, appeared in person and connected with an Oakham police officer during the meeting to arrange a paid detail for the event. The board also voted unanimously to allow new treasurer-tax collector Sarah Hunter, placed through Mass Muni Fin, to work between 24 and 30 hours per week temporarily — above the standard 16-hour ceiling — to address a backlog of urgent taxpayer account items. In other action, the board accepted five town financial policies with a single wording correction and appointed Nick Killick to the Conservation Commission. Five Oakham residents who raised $28,391 for pediatric cancer nonprofit Why Me and Sherry's House through a 100-mile ruck march were recognized during public session.
