Oakham Select Board Lays Out Two Roads, Calls Special Town Meeting for March 9

OAKHAM — February 23, 2026 — Oakham Select Board unanimously lays out two subdivision roads and calls a Special Town Meeting for March 9. Acting under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 82, the board adopted an order of layout for Old Schoolhouse Road and Skyline Drive in the Longwood Estates subdivision, citing a definitive plan recorded in Plan Book 775, page 20, at the Worcester South District Registry of Deeds and signed off on by Planning Board Chairman Phil Warbass in a February 10 letter. Voters at the March 9 meeting, set for 7 p.m. at the school, will consider two articles: formal acceptance of both roads as public ways, with authority for the board to acquire fee and easements by gift, purchase, or eminent domain; and a transfer of $75,000 from the General Stabilization Fund to bolster the town's legal budget for costs tied to a battery energy storage system dispute. The board also voted unanimously to appoint Dave Scavira and Tom Hoffey as part-time plow drivers to shore up a short-staffed highway department ahead of a forecasted storm.
