Oakham Select Board Votes to Begin Police Chief Contract Non-Renewal Process

OAKHAM — June 9, 2025 — Oakham Select Board votes to begin non-renewal of police chief's contract. The three-member board returned from executive session Monday night and unanimously approved sending the chief a non-renewal notice under the terms of his current contract, setting February 19, 2026 as the date to begin renegotiations. Earlier in the meeting the board approved a $6,873.65 budget revision within the police department restoring animal control officer funding after a Finance Committee reorganization, on a recommendation from Finance Committee Chair Corey Packard. The board also approved a $1,400 transfer from its web and IT account to cover National Grid charges for parking lot lights that had left the account in deficit. A sustained discussion on Skyline Drive and Old Schoolhouse Road — two private roads the town has been unable to formally accept for three years because developer attorney Spillane and Spillane has not produced required as-built drawings — ended without a vote but with a commitment to press town counsel to send a demand letter. The board also appointed a volunteer identified only as Lucy as minute taker, noting that official minutes were running several months behind.
