Finance Committee · Meeting of September 23, 2026

Oakham Finance Committee fine-tunes a $550,000 override pitch, correcting its own numbers live. Chair Vincent Piucci and Vice Chair Donald Haapakoski reviewed a presentation showing the override, meant to last through fiscal 2033, after the committee caught a $318,000 spreadsheet error that revised the average household impact from $685 to $395.60 a year. The town has held its operating budget flat for 12 years and covered a fiscal 2027 gap of more than $200,000 with free cash.

If the override fails, members said the options are largely limited to the $122,000 library budget and $229,000 police budget, with general stabilization already down to roughly $300,000 from about $600,000. Four information sessions were set for October 13, 15, 17 and 20, ahead of an October 26 Special Town Meeting and an expected June ballot vote. The committee also flagged a likely vacancy after member Stephen Dollinger reportedly moved away.
