Oakham Conservation Commission votes down peer review, closes Robinson Road hearing. Members voted 1-3 against requiring an outside peer review of applicant Cara Peck's Robinson Road stream-crossing project, then voted unanimously to close the public hearing, with an order of conditions to be signed at the commission's August 4 meeting. The applicant's wetland scientist, identified only as Chuck, said he corrected the proposed culvert span from 12 to 18 feet and resolved a paperwork discrepancy that put bank alteration at 72 linear feet.
One member said "I just think there are areas of this project that are beyond our expertise," while Peck said "I have done my due diligence to hire a professional to design the plan." Separately, members approved spending $1,500 from the town's $4,082 wetlands fund to pay consultant Scott Horsley ahead of a hearing Thursday, and discussed adopting MACC-model rules, subject to town counsel review, for when applicants must fund outside peer review.
